For the last 2 weeks, I was able to take advantage of a great opportunity to paint a Hollywood movie set!
The movie is being shot in Boston, with many of the sets built in a large warehouse. I can't share too much about the movie (and definitely no pictures yet!), but it was a totally different perspective to see where a movie is filmed and how the sets are created.
In addition to more straight-forward painting, we did a lot of "effects" painting to make the sets look real. I Idid everything from painting faux stone walls, to “aging” the trim and floors of an apartment set to make it look lived-in, to putting a “patina” on a kitchen set to make it look well-used. Many different "rooms" and even some exterior walls (that can be seen through the windows of interior sets) got similar treatment - where little details like "rusting" the fasteners for an exterior pipe or adding grime to the ceiling of an old bathroom make all the difference in terms of making the rooms come alive!
I will definitely watch movies from a different perspective, and I also picked up some tricks along the way!
